What better gift to leave the world than the wonder of our unique FAUNA

By including F.A.U.N.A Association Inc., in your will you will be assisting us to attend to the needs of the huge amount of our native animals that for one reason or another come into care each year, as the greater portion are orphaned, the time factor involved can range from two to eighteen months per animal, with the cost of food and medication being met by the carers themselves. If you wish to become involved, you can do so either through a direct gift  [fully tax deductible] or you may consider making a bequest.

How to Make a Will

To be legally valid, wills have to comply with certain legal requirements.  For this reason we strongly recommend that legal advice is sought.  Most Public Trustees and many solicitors can prepare your will free or for a small charge.

If there is no will, an estate will be allocated according to a formula under state laws, and if there is no next of kin your estate will go to the State Government.

If you already have a will you can simply add a supplement to the will which sets out your instructions for a bequest.

Common Forms of Bequests

A residual bequest

After making provision for family and friends you can choose to leave what’s left (the residual).

A percentage

Some people decide to share their estate among a number of people and allocate a percentage to beneficiaries. This overcomes the need to review your will regularly to take account of changes in your estate or to compensate for inflation.

Gifts of property

Artwork, stocks, bonds, shares, insurance policies, jewelry, antiques, a home or a farm can also be gifted in your will.

A specified cash sum

While  a specific amount of cash is a common form of bequest it does not allow for inflation.

The real value of the gift can prove to be substantially less than  intended due to the effects of inflation between the time of making the will and the allocation of the assets. It is preferable to allocate your estate by one of the above methods.

A suggested wording is as follows

“I give, devise and bequeath to F.A.U.N.A. (Fostercare of Australia’s Unique Native Animals) Association Inc., (insert here the percentage of the estate or other details) to be used for the general purposes of the Association and the receipt of the Secretary or other proper officer of the said  association shall be sufficient  discharge to my trustees”

Review Your Will

It is recommended that you review your will every few years to take into account the changes in your family, the nature and value of your property or how you would like to allocate your estate. For example, if you marry, your existing will becomes invalid.

We strongly recommend that your gift be made for the general purposes of the Association.  However if you have a specific project you particularly wish to support we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you to avoid any difficulties.
